ACT for Parents
The ACT for Parents group is a group devoted to helping parents of children with disabilities manage the stress they encounter on a daily basis.
We know that parenting a child with a disability can be challenging, and one of the by-products is that parents of children with disabilities experience a lot of stress. This group focuses on using Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), which can help you limit how much that stress runs your life. It involves helping you relate differently to your anxious feelings, depressed moods, self-defeating behaviors, and/or anything else that gets in the way of valued-living.
ACT is a behavioral approach that helps you learn strategies to live life more in the present, more focused on important values and goals, and less focused on painful thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Acceptance means bringing an open and willing attitude toward all internal feelings and experiences- not resigning yourself to your circumstances or giving in to pain. Commitment means actively working what you truly care about, even what pain is present.
